Turning a quote into a rate
A quote of ₹6,500 for 350 km works out at ₹18.57 a kilometre, all in. Reducing every quote to a rate per kilometre is the only reliable way to compare operators, because each one bundles tolls, driver allowance and GST differently.
The other direction builds the full fare from a rate, including the minimum kilometres a day that outstation operators charge whether you travel them or not, the driver's daily allowance, tolls and parking, and GST.
What inflates an outstation quote
Most outstation operators bill a minimum of around 250 to 300 km per day. On a two-day trip of 350 km you may be charged for 500 to 600 km. The driver allowance, usually a few hundred rupees a day, is charged for every day including the day you travel nowhere.
Ask whether the quoted rate includes tolls, state permits, parking and GST, and whether the distance is measured from the garage or from your door. Garage-to-garage billing can add a surprising number of kilometres to a short local trip.
